One year at Y!
Today I complete one year at Y! It's been a lot of fun, made lots of friends and done some work too :P

I am kind of lazy to write a detailed meaningful post about it. So very quickly, and in no particular order, here are the top reasons why I love to work for Y!

Y! is a helluva lot of fun. Fun is one of our core values and the spirit is seriously infectious. Friday evening parties ( almost every other week ), two major outings - one summer outing ( we are off to GRS next week ) and one year end party, add to that movies and not to mention team outings, pool, TT and foosball through out the year... you will never get tired of having fun here.

And yeah! we do work :P. The most gratifying thing about your work at Y! is the number of people who get to use it. Y! is one of the most recognized brands in the world ( not just in computer stuff ). To top it all, working for something that is either going to compete with a similar product from G or beating them to it must be one of the most satisfying things ever!

You do get paid well. You can find companies that will pay you one and a half times as much, but what the heck, you do only half the work you do there. And if you are lucky, you make a lot of money through shares.

We have deadlines and stuff, but the work for the most part is pleasantly hectic, nothing more. I haven't worked any weekends or worked for more than 12 hours in a day so far. But that's just me!

Btw, we are hiring. If you feel you have it in you to work for us, ping me on messenger or send me an email.

And you need to understand when to advise people and when not to. There was some context that kruthi knew and understood, and you did not :| ;)

Re: Py @ Google

We do use python, but perl usage is more as of now. I must say python is catching up.

Re: Py @ Google

The World is small'ngo :) (read with a coimbatore english accent please ;) ). I didn't know you knew aathitude. :)

I would really say that there is no such 'limitation' of what tools you use (of course, depends on your team and your convincing skills to use python ;) ). but given that a majority of the "infrastructure" is already in perl and such one is probably better off with those over here.

To me, its the kind of problems we work on that interests me the most. Python is a tool and tools should be chosen based on the problem, IMVHO. There are hardly any Yahoo! specific python libraries that I know of. :(

(agree, python is a nice tool for most problems, when you know it well (and thats probably why you are so religiously attached to Python because you are a python God :) ). But like they say, just because your tool is a hammer, the problem shouldn't appear like a Nail to you :) )

Dood... you're *we are hiring* link is broken... and in some strange way half-pointing to my blog! :)

Half pointing to your blog? :-/

I think I had missed http:// in the URL. So it had just appended bangalore.yahoo.com from the page your were viewing it from. So that would be /users/acmurthy/friends/bangalore.yahoo.com. So no matter who was reading it, it was half pointing to his blog ;)

Hahahaha. That was some Y! goody-goody post. So used to reading about it on Jeremy's blog. But I like the way all you Yahoo!s write about the fun that goes on there. Makes for good reading.

The last paragraph was the best. :)
